Welcome to the Winter 2010 semester! Sheridan wants your transition to be a smooth one. Below is a list of the things you need to do to get started. Remember - school starts on Monday, January 11th, 2010.

As always, if you have questions or need additional assistance, please review our FAQ’s (new students/ returning students) OR contact the Student Advisement Centre at askanadvisor@sheridaninstitute.ca.

BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS:

• Pay your fees to ensure you are registered in classes
• Log into AccessSheridan and check your Webmail for important info from the College
• View your timetable from AccessSheridan
• Register online for electives from Dec.16th to Jan.15th (if necessary)
• Get your laptop ready for this semester (mobile computing students only)
• Review program specific start of term information from your faculty
• Apply for Advanced Standing (if necessary)
• Identify or reconnect with Disability Services
• Review important dates and Student Information Guide
• Become familiar with Sheridan’s Policies and Procedures
• Review your checklist to ensure you have taken care of everything (new students/returning students)
  

• Print your timetable from AccessSheridan
• Make changes to your timetable (if necessary)
• Pick up your OSAP funding from Financial Aid
• Apply for Sheridan’s Tuition Set-Aside Bursary from Jan.11th to Feb.12th (if necessary)
• Activate your laptop
• Log into SLATE to view course information and materials
• Pick up your parking pass (there is no charge for parking Jan.11th-15th)
• Learn more about the services that are available to support your academic and personal success
• Purchase required course material at the Bookstore
• Review your Health and Dental Plan
• Review pandemic information
  

PROGRAM SPECIFIC STARTUP INFORMATION:
Program specific start-up information will be listed here on an ongoing basis. Be sure to check this page periodically to see if there are any updates for your program.

TIMETABLES:
You will be able to view your timetable on December 16th. To access your timetable – log into AccessSheridan with your user name and password*, and follow the instructions below:

• Click on myStudent Centre
• Click on the Enroll link under Academics
• Click on Weekly Calendar View – your timetable is date sensitive; fill in ‘Week of:’ as 01/11/2010

Need to make changes to your timetable? You should always discuss your decision to change your timetable or program with a Student Advisor in the Student Advisement Centre (Trafalgar Road– Room B104, Davis – Room B231) or with your Program Coordinator. If you decide to change your timetable or switch programs, please visit the Office of the Registrar Triage Station (Trafalgar – Room D100, Davis – Room B201, Skills Training Centre – Room A1) and book an appointment to meet with a Records Specialist.

• Course adds can be made until January 15th
• Course drops can be made until January 22nd
• Program changes can be made until January 15th (space permitting)
  

NOTE: Record Specialists will not be available for appointment on Monday, January 4th, 2010.

ADVANCED STANDING
If you have taken courses at another college or university within the past five years, you may be eligible for Advanced Standing (an exemption from one or more of your Sheridan courses). To get more information about applying for Advanced Standing, visit the Student Advisement Centre.

FINANCIAL AID (OSAP):
NEW STUDENTS
OSAP loans will begin to be released on Monday January 4 for students who will be starting their first year, first semester in January 2010.

RETURNING STUDENTS
On Wednesday January 6 OSAP funding will begin to be released by Financial Aid staff to students who will be in a semester other than their first semester in January 2010. Those students with a May Not Continue (NC) or Academic Probation status where they are directed that they MUST see their academic advisor (AP2) may not collect OSAP funding until their academic standing indicates that they are allowed to continue in their program.

Keep in mind:

• loans are not automatically deposited into your account at the beginning of the term
• you need to visit the Financial Aid Office (Trafalgar Road– Room D100, Davis – Room B200) to pick up your OSAP funding each semester you are attending Sheridan and have applied for OSAP assistance
• before visiting the Financial Aid Office and/or waiting in line, you are encouraged to:
• log in to your OSAP application at http://osap.gov.on.ca and check the status of your application (click on 'Total Funding' to ensure funding has been issued)
• ensure you have the required identification and banking information which includes:
• Social Insurance Card
• valid government issued photo ID
• a void cheque or your bank account number and bank transit number
• the National Student Loans Service Centre will be on-campus from January 4th-16th

GENERAL EDUCATION, BREADTH AND PROGRAM ELECTIVES:
Online selection of cross college general education, breadth and program electives will begin December 16th. If you are required to select an elective class, you will receive notification via your Sheridan email account.

PARKING PASSES
If you have prepaid or need to pay for a parking permit, please visit the front counter of the Office of the Registrar at any campus (Trafalgar – Room D100, Davis – Room B201, Skills Training Centre – Room A1).
